Frequently Asked Questions

What are Mistral WineCards?

Mistral is a 55-card wine education system that turns complex wine concepts into clear, usable knowledge. The deck covers regions, grapes, terroir, winemaking, and tasting, designed to build real confidence, fast.

Who are Mistral WineCards for?

Mistral is built for curious drinkers, hospitality teams, educators, and wine professionals who want clarity, not trivia. It works equally well at home, behind the bar, on the retail floor, or in a classroom.

Do I need prior wine knowledge to use Mistral?

No. The system is designed to be beginner-friendly while still valuable for experienced professionals. Many sommeliers, retailers, and educators use the same cards for fast recall and teaching.

How do people actually use the cards?

People use Mistral in lots of ways:

  • At home, to understand bottles they’re drinking
  • In wine shops, as a counter-side reference and staff tool
  • In restaurants and tasting rooms, for pre-shift training
  • In classes, clubs, and study groups as a shared framework

There’s no single “right” way, just clearer conversations.

Are the cards connected to a wider wine education system?

Yes. Mistral is part of Wine with Seth, which includes the Wine with Seth app, the WineWiki encyclopedia, and the WineChats podcast. Every topic in Deck ONE has a deeper article on WineWiki and a reference entry in the app.

Are these cards meant to replace books or certifications?

No. Mistral isn’t an encyclopedia or a certification program. It’s a practical system that helps concepts click faster and stick longer, whether you’re learning casually or studying seriously.

Will the cards change over time?

Yes, carefully. Mistral is a stable system that improves incrementally with each print run. The core structure stays consistent, while clarity, visuals, and content are refined based on real-world use and feedback.

I noticed an error or have a suggestion. What should I do?

Please let us know. Mistral is a living system, and we’re continually refining and improving it with every print run.

Like any thoughtfully designed physical product, small issues can occasionally surface during development, proofing, or printing. When they do, we correct and update them in subsequent batches. Feedback from educators, trade partners, and engaged drinkers helps make the system better over time.

If you spot something or have a suggestion, we genuinely want to hear it, reach out anytime at hello@mistralcards.com.

Are Mistral WineCards available for wholesale or programs?

Yes. We work with wine shops, tasting rooms, wineries, distributors, and education programs. Wholesale pricing and program options are available. Visit our Trade page or contact wholesale@mistralcards.com. For custom or branded decks, see the custom-decks question below.

Do you offer wine training for tasting rooms or restaurants?

Yes. The Foundation Program for Teams is available in three tiers on Wine with Seth: a 10-pack, a 25-pack, or an Annual Unlimited License built for turnover. Every seat includes a Mistral WineCards Deck ONE shipped to the property. Full details at winewithseth.com/wineschool/teams.

Where are the cards designed and made?

Mistral WineCards are designed in Seattle and printed globally on premium playing-card stock, packaged in a reusable protective metal tin.

How should I store or care for the cards?

The cards are designed for regular use. Store them in the tin when not in use, keep them dry, and treat them like you would a favorite deck of playing cards.

Will there be new decks, topics, or regions in the future?

Yes. Mistral is designed as a growing system.

Deck ONE: Global establishes the shared foundation: regions, grapes, terroir, winemaking, and tasting. Over time, we’ll introduce new decks and focused packs that go deeper into specific regions, themes, or use cases.

Each new release is designed to work alongside existing decks, not replace them.

Do you offer custom decks?

Custom decks aren't something we're actively producing right now. If you have a specific project in mind for a winery, hotel, or brand, contact us at programs@mistralcards.com and we'll evaluate case by case.

Is there a digital version of the cards?

The cards are intentionally physical. For lookups, tasting notes, and wine data on your phone, use the Wine with Seth app at app.winewithseth.com.

Is Mistral WineCards affiliated with Mistral AI?

No. Mistral WineCards is a wine education product and brand. It is not affiliated with Mistral AI.
